The Musenyi Washing Station is one of the most prominent coffee processing facilities in the region, known for its commitment to quality and sustainability. Located in a mountainous area with fertile soils and a favorable climate, this station receives coffee cherries grown at high altitudes, which contribute to the development of complex and balanced flavor profiles.
Small-scale producers from nearby communities, many of them with family plots, carefully hand-pick the ripe cherries and deliver them daily to the station. Once there, they are sorted through a flotation process to separate defective cherries, and then pulped before moving to the fermentation tanks. The fermentation process at Musenyi is carefully controlled to ensure a clean cup and bright acidity, highly valued characteristics in the region’s coffees.
After washing, the beans are sun-dried on raised beds, where they are regularly turned and protected from rain and excessive heat. This traditional method not only allows for uniform drying but also helps preserve the quality of the beans over time.
The station also plays a key role in community development, providing seasonal employment and promoting sustainable agricultural practices among local producers. Thanks to these efforts, the coffee processed at Musenyi has earned a prominent place in the international market for its traceability, consistency, and excellent cup profile.
