The Muthuthuini washing station is part of the Ruthaka cooperative in Kenya, composed of over 1000 farmers and established in the 1960s. Coffee thrives in fertile volcanic soils, nourished by annual rainfall of 1000-1400 mm and the crystal-clear waters of the Ruarai river. Cherries are hand-selected, picking only those at the optimal ripeness. They undergo a 16-hour fermentation process followed by washing with clean Ruarai river water. Finally, coffee beans are dried on rised African beds for 14-21 days.
