El Estribo farm has belonged to the Altamirano family since 1859. The coffee was planted for the first time in 1879, but it was not until 2011 that they began to seriously work on coffee production.
The non-profit association Bean Voyage is working with Samuel and his family as part of their new “Blooming” initiative that focuses on helping the new generations of farmers in Veracruz. Before pulping the coffee, the cherries are fermented for 15 hours, then they are washed twice to completely remove the pulp and dried in the sun for 12 days.
