Description
Chocolate and hazelnut spread
with cacao criollo and Piedmont hazelnuts
In 2021 we presented this spread at the International Chocolate Awards and it was awarded a bronze prize. The main ingredients are criollo cacao and Piedmont hazelnuts.
Criollo cacao is the least bitter of the three most widely grown cacao varieties: Forastero, Trinitario and Criollo. The beans are light in colour and have very pronounced aromas of nuts, caramel and fruit. The beans we use to make this spread are grown in the East Java region in Indonesia.
On the other hand, Piedmont hazelnuts are a unique variety in the world and enjoy a protected designation of origin. They are completely round, sweet and have a much crispier flesh than other hazelnuts. We want their flavour to be noticeable, so this spread has 42% hazelnuts, nearly four times as much as commercial spreads.
