The name of this café pays tribute to the grandparents of the Farm , Albaro Abarca Herrera and Leonel Jiménez Abarca, who instilled in future generations the value of hard work and honesty. Inspired by their teachings, the family launched their own venture.
Located in the renowned coffee-growing region of Tarrazú, the community relies on coffee cultivation for its economic and social well-being. This family-run project began more than 21 years ago, and over the past five years, it has focused on improving product quality and ensuring that its coffee stands out in the cup. With this goal in mind, Abuelos Café was founded in 2019.
Despite financial difficulties, the family decided to remain committed to coffee, but in a more direct way: by connecting with end customers, ensuring traceability, and offering superior quality. In the beginning, the coffee was sold as cherries to local processing facilities; however, over time, they opted for a more independent model. That is how they began operating as a micro-processing facility, processing a small batch of their first harvest.
The road wasn't easy. Finding customers required patience, Training perseverance. Thanks to Training , we managed to sell two micro-lots in the second year, and in the third year, we processed nearly 30% of the total harvest.
Abuelos Café is a family-owned business run by Kamila, Emmanuel, Gustavo, Adolfo, and Seilyn. The day-to-day operations of the processing plant are managed entirely by women: Seilyn, the mother, and Kamila, the daughter, who oversee every stage of the process with commitment and dedication.
The family’s goal is to continue growing, both professionally and personally, and to offer consumers coffee that embodies history, hard work, and purpose. Every cup creates a ripple effect that positively impacts the lives of those who produce it, their families, and their community.
