In central Tanzania, the Kilombero Valley Kilombero Valley is on the border with the Udzungwa mountain national park. Udzungwa National Park. The soil and genetics of central Tanzania have the potential to produce very good cacao . However, for many years Tanzania's cacao has been sold to larger exporters. Now, thanks to the quality approach of Kokoa Kamilis quality approach, a better product is being produced at a better price. This substantially improves family incomes and the standard of living of local farmers. Farmers in Kilombero have been practicing organic farming for generations, by default. cacao is grown in small-scale agroforestry, intercropped with bananas, corn and shade trees. Harvesting is done by hand, and the beans are fermented for 6 days in wooden boxes, then sun-dried on African beds.
