The Washed station is one of the region’s leading coffee processing facilities, known for its commitment to quality and sustainability. Located in a mountainous area with fertile soil and a favorable climate, this station receives high-altitude coffee cherries, which contribute to the development of complex and balanced flavor profiles.
Small-scale farmers from nearby communities, many of whom own family plots, carefully hand-pick the ripe cherries and deliver them daily to the station. Once there, they are sorted using a flotation process to remove defective cherries, and then pulped before being transferred to fermentation tanks. The fermentation process at Musenyi is carefully controlled to ensure a clean cup and bright acidity, characteristics highly valued in coffees from the region.
After the Washed process, the beans are sun-dried on raised beds, where they are turned regularly and protected from rain and excessive heat. This traditional method not only ensures even drying but also helps preserve the quality of the beans over time.
The station also plays a key role in community development by providing seasonal employment and promoting sustainable agricultural practices among local farmers. Thanks to these efforts, coffee processed at Musenyi has earned a prominent place in the international market for its traceability, consistency, and excellent cup profile.
