Burundi Turaco

The turaco is an iconic bird of Burundi, and our Turaco coffee pays tribute to its beauty and uniqueness. It is a true specialty gem that certainly stands out. Fully washed and of exceptional quality, it is IMPACT-certified and carefully selected at the source by our quality control experts.

During the harvest, all cherries are picked by hand through a meticulous selection process. Most farming families cultivate between 200 and 250 coffee trees and handle the harvest themselves. Recognizing that even short distances can pose a challenge, Greenco & Bugestal have developed a fair and accessible system: farmers can deliver their cherries to washing stations or to any of the 12 nearby collection points, always receiving the same price for their coffee, regardless of their location. This eliminates geographical barriers and ensures fair compensation.

In Burundi, coffee is grown almost exclusively by small-scale farmers, and much of this production is renowned for its extraordinary quality. Its sweet, clean cup profiles with delicate floral notes are increasingly establishing the country as a force to be reckoned with in the world of specialty coffee.

Coffee is not just a crop: it is the livelihood of thousands of families and a key driver of the country's development. Investing in infrastructure—such as building washing stations and expanding agricultural programs—not only improves the quality of the beans but also boosts the economic potential of an entire nation.
